The Macallan 55 Year Old Scotch

The Macallan has released a 55 year old scotch this year, one of the older bottlings we've heard of to hit the streets. You might like it because of the distinctive, perfume-inspired bottle. Or, you might be into it because the Macallan makes such fine scotch. Us? We're just pumped that we can finally live out our dream of drinking scotch that's as old as our parents.

Who wants to chip into some of the $12K we'll need to buy it? Let us know soon because they're only making 420 of these puppies. [via Luxist]

Sailor Jerry Schwag Sale for the Holidays

sailor-jerry-nov07.jpgAs you may or may not know, we're longtime fans of Sailor Jerry Rum, but what you probably don't know is our enjoyment of their brand doesn't stop at the booze. We're also big fans of the tattoo-chic clothing line they've put out, which is all inspired by the flash created by the real Sailor Jerry in the days of yore. We're not quite hipster enough to wear it all, but we do like to accessorize.

We're on the company's monthly mailing list, and we just got the heads up they're currently offering 10% off everything in their store; just use the code "10percent" when you're checking out, and make sure you order before December 17 to get your items in time for the holidays.

Corner Creek Bourbon Review

Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon Whiskey
Kentucky Whiskey made with corn, wheat, and rye
8 Years Old
88 Proof (44% ABV)
Typical Price: Mid-$20 range
The Company Line: A selection of the distillery's finest barrels. Smoothed to perfection with pure Kentucky limestone water. Full-bodied, but without any harshness.
Available at Internet Wines & Spirits

Our Thoughts: The first thing that struck us about Corner Creek was the fact that everyone who saw the bottle initially thought it was a wine bottle. We thought this was interesting because the round-shouldered bottle definitely stands out from other whiskey packaging we've seen, plus we didn't mind the idea of being able to hide our bourbon in the wine rack.

When we got the bottle open, the nose was sweet and sultry with no harshness. When we tasted it straight, that sweetness carried through and we were blown away by how smooth this bourbon was. There was no hint of that harshness you get from a lot of rye in the blend, and while we usually take a drop of water in our whiskey we were fully able to enjoy Corner Creek straight.

Corner Creek had a light to medium body that fits with its deep amber color, and a sweet and smoky taste that kept us coming back for more. The finish was long and dare we say sexy, like a nice deep kiss from that special someone you didn't think was interested in you. We were immediately in love, and struck by the fact this was a refined bourbon we would recommend to any of our whiskey snobbish friends.

The Verdict: Corner Creek is a diamond in the rough, and we would expect to pay far more than the $25 or so dollars it costs for a bourbon of this quality and taste. At 88 proof and with that sweet tinge it won't burn off your tongue, and if you're anything like us you'll continually want to wrap your tongue around it. Great value, distinctive bottle, exciting taste - highly recommended for anyone looking to dip their toe into the bourbon world without spending too much.

LookBetterNaked Margarita Recipe

partida-tequila.jpgThe nether region between Thanksgiving and Christmas isn't when we're usually looking for a margarita recipe, but the email we just received made a pretty good point - come the first of the year, we're going to have to shed a few pounds. Not that we think sitting around sipping tequila is going to do this for us, but the recipe in the email does seem like it'd help take a stab at enabling us to burn off some pork. We'll let the folks from Partida explain, since they do so better than we could:

Ingredients include Partida Reposado tequila, organic acai, organic agave nectar, rosemary, egg white and fresh squeezed lime juice. Since the ingredients are all natural, the LookBetterNaked margarita is a healthy alternative to other drinks. Using Sambozan Pure Organic Acai and Partida Organic Agave Nectar fills the margarita with antioxidants, amino acids, dietary fiber, iron, calcium, cholesterol-reducing fructans and Vitamins A and C. The rosemary is rich in vitamin E, preventing cancer and skin damage. An egg white provides a full source of protein, while the fresh lime juice
prevents heart disease and gives an extra dose of Vitamin C. The LookBetterNaked margarita is this year's guilty pleasure to help you lose the weight!
We're not quite sure we're buying it, but we're sure as hell willing to try...hope we don't have to make any tequila confessions. Read on for the full recipe.

Best Consoles for Video Game Partying

Ron Jeremy as Super MarioThere are some who think video games are strictly for geeks, but we can tell you from personal experience that's just not the case. Sometimes, the best memories can be made with a few friends, a few beers, and the right video game console. Some of our favorite times involved Link saving the princess, Mario saving the princess, Metroid turning out to be a chick...we just wish we were old enough to drink during all that.

These days, the video games are better and you're old enough to party, but which video game console should you choose for your next get-together? We've rounded up some ideas to help you wade through the Wiis, examine the Xboxes, or pick the right Playstation. Read our thoughts and let us know what you think after the jump.

Welcome the WineRack

Ever since we first covered the BeerBelly, we've heard rumblings of a new product coming out from the same folks, targeted at women. It was called the WineRack, and it would accentuate some of the more...prominent features on the women who wore them and give them an alternative to the 'Belly, because in our experience the typical lady doesn't want to make herself look chubbier.

Our wait is over, and the WineRack is here in all of its splendor, just in time for Christmas. It's priced very reasonably at $29.95, and they're also running a special right now - order by December 3 and add "hookmeup" to the coupon code box, and you'll knock 25% off your entire order.

Just think - WineRacks and BeerBellies for everyone on your list!

Edible Candy Cane Shot Glasses

We've been guilty in the past of waiting too long to put up our Christmas-y posts, so people don't have time to actually get them before the holidays. Not this year, dammit (sorry Jebus). This year, we've found you the ultimate in festive holiday drinking gear - candy cane shot glasses. We can imagine these would get sticky after a few drinks, but that's a small price to pay. Can you imagine the peppermint overload after a couple shots of Rumple Minz and eating the glass? Fresh breath for life!

Bar Tools Bartender Tool Box

We're no Tool Snobs or anything, but this is a tool box we can get behind. It's chock full of all kinds of gadgets, but instead of using them to build a birdhouse or hang a picture, it offers the tools to craft the perfect cocktail. We're thinking about getting one of these bad boys for our dad this year, and it seems like the perfect holiday gift for dudes. At least the pain of smashing their thumb with the hammer will be lessened after a few Rob Roys.

4 Olive picks - nails
1 Bottle opener - hammer
1 1/2 and 3/4 oz. jigger
1 Lemon - saw
1 Corkscrew - screwdriver
1 Cocktail strainer - spackle knife

Waring Pro Electric Martini Maker

It might not seem like the case based on the number of ingredients, but the martini is one of the tougher drinks out there to make well. Note we didn't say it was tough to make - we said it was tough to do right. Traditionally, it's stirred, but some folks want it shaken so they can be like Bond (and we suppose some people might even want to drop in some HGH so they can be like Bonds). However you take your 'tini, this gadget is designed to help you build it right.

Holiday Party Drink Recipes from Marie Claire

Yes, you're right...if there are two things that go hand in hand, they're Liquor Snob and Marie Claire. It's like chocolate and peanut Laurel and Hardy. OK, maybe not, but we do like the list of cocktails they put together. A lot of them seem to contain champagne, but don't hold that against does Death in the Afternoon. Thanks, Marie Claire - we'll think of you when we're sipping a hot buttered rum.

Playboy: The Complete Centerfolds

We've been trying to class things up around here, and everyone knows the best way to do that is by adding leather and velvet. Oh, and boobs. To that end, we've discovered the greatest coffee table book in the universe, one which will make a great conversation piece at your next party. The book? Oh, it only contains over 700 pages and every single Playboy Playmate that ever existed. You are very welcome.

Lush Life Party Ice Luge

There are a lot of reasons why ice luges are great. Most of those reasons revolve around the fact that they involve parties, ice, and liquor. If you're looking for a teeny, tiny, portable luge you can bring from party to party, here's your huckleberry - the Lush Life Party Luge. It's got two channels for booze, though it's so petite we're not sure how cozy it'd be with two people doing it at once. Only one way to find out, though...

Absinthe Original Bitter: Buy 2, Get 1 Free

We've heard it said that the best things in life are free, and we've got to agree that's the case when it comes to absinthe. We just found out about a deal where you can get a free bottle of absinthe plus a t-shirt if you buy two bottles - so happy frickin' holidays if Czech absinthe is your gig.

To celebrate new design of Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit, we are giving you one full size bottle completely FREE of charge. This is the best opportunity to try Absinthe Original's exceptional and unmistakable taste, which comes out most distinctly when the drink is served cooled. Three bottles of Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit for the price of two and cool absinthe t-shirt as a bonus. With Xmas slowly approaching, this is once in a lifetime offer!!!
Absinthe Bitter Special Set

Update: Have We Been Had?
We just heard from an absinthe expert we trust, and he says we've been had by this absinthe deal. Here's what he says:

You've been had! These products have a cost to the vendor of less than 10 dollars and they sell them normally for 100 dollars each. The fact that they can give 1 away free (buy 2, get 3) for 200 dollars when the cost is still less than 30 dollars to them does not entitle them to any hype at all, least of all from an authoritative source such as Liquor Snob.
So what's the deal - we haven't tried this stuff...have any of our loyal readers had any run-ins with Absinthe Original? Let us know in the comments if you have.

Customized Beer Pong Balls from Adam's Balls

Pong Balls

We've been wracking our brains to think of something cooler than handing out customized beer pong balls as gifts to your friends this year, but anything we come up with is usually illegal in 49 states. It's around two bucks a ball, but c'mon - they're putting whatever image you want on a tiny sphere so you can throw it into beer. Sounds reasonable to us.We suppose you could also play regular old ping pong with these too - if you're so inclined.

In Ur Barz, Sippin Ur Manly Drinkz

The topic for today is manly drinks, and we couldn't think of anything more manly to accompany them than lolcatz. Well, OK, maybe not. Maybe it's time for us to lay off the sauce for a little while. But it'll be tough with all these manly drink recipes we just found, from the Rusty Nail to our personal all-time favorite, the Old Fashioned.

In the words of the authors:

This is a list of the classics. The drinks of wise, confident men. Drinks that have been around for ages; not made-up at last year’s homecoming party at the frat bar. Think Frank Sinatra, James Bond, Ernest Hemingway, Winston Churchill…

It should be noted the Campus Squeeze fellas also offer a list of Girly Drinks in case you want to get girl drink drunk and secretly look at lolcatz.

World Series of Beer Pong 2008

Well, kids, that time is here again. No, we're not talking about the holiday season, we're talking about the pre-qualifying rounds for the World Series of Beer Pong. The prizes have gotten bigger, the stakes have gotten higher, and you've got a chance to win $50,000 all with a few flicks of your wrist.

The tourney is in Vegas the first week of January - not a bad place to go to get away from Jack Frost biting your ass. Find out where your local satellite tournaments are so you can qualify for the big show at WSOBP.

We've never seen the show "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" ourselves, but we figured it makes sense to cover everyone's favorite MySpace skank friend (sorry Tom) now that she has a TV show. The tie in to us, beyond her name? We imagine the contestants have to be drinking heavily, or at least they'll start once they actually see the show.

Booze Tower Drinking Game

There's nothing that goes hand in hand like drinking booze and manual dexterity. That's why we so often end up playing Jenga when we're a few sheets to the wind. Booze Tower is the next evolution of the game, with all the same block-picking mayhem and an added layer of "adults only" challenges. Oh, and it comes with four shot glasses - sounds like fun to us.

Riedel Overture Bourbon Glasses

As you've probably ascertained by now, our tastes typically run to the more "fun" side of drinking. We're less inclined to be all hoity toity with the pinky in the air, but we do recognize there's something to be said about drinking booze out of the correct glass. These bourbon glasses are near the top of our Amazon wish list right now.
This Ouverture bourbon glass is shaped and sized for an enjoyable nip of whiskey. Combining a short stem, a pedestal base, and a very slightly belled bowl, the glass is comfortable to sip from and to hold. It stands 4-5/8 inches high on its pedestal base and contains 7 ounces at full capacity. Four pieces in all, the set is intended for frequent use and is safe in the dishwasher.

Physical Challenge: Drink a Fifth of Liquor

It has been far too long since we posted our last physical challenge, so we decided we needed to come back with a bang. There's a little something we've always been enamored with, something that makes us giddy as schoolgirls (and has the possibility to make us falling down drunk too). What is this activity that has our hardened livers turning cartwheels?

Drinking a fifth of liquor in a sitting (or at least in a day). Read more below. [Update: Or don't, if you think we're actually recommending you do this, as one of our commenters is concerned about.]

Liquor Snob Monthly Roundup: October 2007

halloween-drinky.jpgOctober was another big month for us, from the beginning when our Editor in Chief celebrated a big old birthday, to the end when we tricked and treated the hell out of ourselves. We were quoted in the Washington Times, we tried out a great new bottle opener, discovered Baijiu, and we fell head over heels in love with a ginger liqueur that made our toes curl.

It really doesn't get much better than that, does it? Read on for the full list of everything that happened to us in the course of this month.

Twist N Shot Jell-O Shot Cups

We never really thought of our tried and true Jell-O shot delivery method as all that complex. You take the dixie cup, squeeze the hell out of it, and slurp up the Jell-O. Then, you tear it apart to lick off the hidden gelatin like a rampaging anteater.

However, for those of you who feel that's too much, we bring you the Twist 'n Shot - basically a reusable cup with a built-in squeegee. Check it out at; they also offer a few Jell-O shot recipes as well. (For a more comprehensive list of recipes, check out "Questing for the Best Tasting Jell-O Shot.")
