Agua Luca Cachaca from Heaven Hill

OK, we're calling it - Cachaca is going to be the hot "new" liquor this summer, and the caipirinha is going to be to 2007 like the Mojito was to 2006. Expect to see bigger brands coming out with Cachacas moving forward.

Just call it a hunch. Well, that and we're already seeing it happen. Heaven Hill is going to be the first big name to distribute Cachaca, with an offering called Agua Luca. It'll be interesting to see how the liquor fares with the possible new limelight, considering up until now it's been considered a lesser-known bastard cousin of rum (at least in the States). All we know is Cachaca has a hardcore following and the caipirinha damn near tops our list of favorite drinks.

We've just gotten our bottle of Agua Luca, so you can expect a full review soon to find out if this stuff can go toe to toe with some of our artisinal favorites.

Heaven Hill Distilleries Enters Into Joint Venture for Agua Luca Brazilian Rum cachaca

Company becomes first major supplier to deliver luxury cachaca to U.S. marketplace

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. has entered into a joint venture with Excelsior Imports to become the worldwide importer and distributor for Agua Luca Brazilian Rum Cachaca. The deal positions Heaven Hill as the premier supplier of luxury Brazilian Cachaca in the U.S. The official announcement was made in conjunction with the opening of the Wine and Spirits Wholesaler Association Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Agua Luca is an alluring, ultra-premium Brazilian Rum Cachaca - made from the juice of freshly-pressed, hand-cut sugarcane. The spirit preserves the nuances of natural sugar-cane rum by employing a unique distillation and filtering method which results in a cleaner, lighter alternative to other luxury rums. Cachaca, a pure sugarcane rum originating in Brazil, is one of
the hottest new spirit categories in the U.S.

The product is an important addition to Heaven Hill’s portfolio of innovative premium spirits. “With a growing desire for cocktail creativity and innovation, consumers and mixologists are on the hunt for authentic, fresh and unique products. Agua Luca delivers all three with enduring
mixability,” said Kate S. Latts, director of marketing, Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. “We strongly believe in the tremendous potential of cachaca. It is the emerging category in the U.S.”

Cachaca is best know for the distinctive caipirinha cocktail – Brazil’s signature cocktail – featuring sugar and muddled limes. The emerging popularity of the distinctive caipirinha is growing nationwide beyond Latin accounts to national accounts, clubs, pubs and ultra-lounges alike. The cocktail is poised for approach the magnitude of the mojito. The unique spirit also has additional uses in daiquiris and other rum-based drinks.

Agua Luca brand founders Joe Bowman and Jay Tramonte will continue to consult for the brand through their Seismic Inc. brand creation shop.

Agua Luca’s stylish bottle clearly captures the sexy and sophisticated allure of Brazil. The product is available in a 750 ml size at 40% alc./vol. Already this year, Agua Luca Brazilian Rum Cachaca was recognized with a Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Cane and Spirits Competition. It is currently available at such stylish locations as the Wynn Las Vegas, Lever House, Nacional 27, and Prime 112.
