Absolut Pears v. Grey Goose La Poire
We don't do much with flavored vodka around here - not that we don't like them, we just don't drink them often. We've found an interesting review comparing two pear vodkas - one from Absolut and the other from Grey Goose. We've never been big Absolut fans, but we like us some Goose every once in a while. Well, that and the fact that the reviewer compares the flavor of one brand to reptile offal...something we don't have much experience with but wouldn't want in our cocktails.
What's Grey Goose's La Poire got going for it? One thing only: it doesn't taste like a combo of cough medicine and snake shit. Seriously, Absolut Pears is fucking awful; a very fake tasting "pear" flavor that completely overpowers the vodka. Very disappointing, considering how delicious Absolut Mandarin is. Grey Goose La Poire, however, is tasty; the essence of Anjou pears added to the vodka creates a nicely subtle flavor.

Note: We dug around on copyranter's site a bit and we liked what he had to say about booze - where we have a tendency to see the good in all booze, he definitely calls 'em like he sees 'em. Check out Excuse Me While I Puke and Die and Absolut Krap.

While I definitely agree that absolut pears tastes like ass and is clearly an inferior product to grey goose le poire the association of snake feces to "offal" is misleading. Offal is considered to be organ meat prepared as a delicacy i.e. sweet breads and fois gras, not feces.
